The Heart of Texas Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) announced this week it will be hosting a free Community Health Fair in Streetman and Teague.

The Community Health Fair will be held in Streetman at the Community Health and Education Building located at 201 North Houston Street on Thursday, August 19th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and in Teague at the Community Center located at 511 East Main Street later in the day from 1 – 4 pm. Plenty of parking will be available and easily accessible for those attending the health fair.

The ADRC is partnering with community agencies to provide free preventative care and health awareness during the Community Health Fair.

In addition, there will be Resource Navigators available to help those in need navigate through a complicated and complex network of available support services with the primary purpose of helping individuals live within their community. “The Heart of Texas Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) brings a comprehensive list of resources and services to the community and we are excited to be out meeting with people at these events,” said Gary Luft, Deputy Executive Director for Health and Human Services.

Additionally, severe weather season is right around the corner, come learn more about how you can protect your family from tornadoes and get some great free handouts and items to help you get weather ready.

The Delta Variant is here, the Johnson and Johnson vaccine will be given at the health fair at no cost, no insurance required. “The goal is to help families that might not otherwise have the opportunity to get a free vaccine at a convenient location where they feel safe – in their neighborhood,” said Russell Devorsky, Executive Director of the Heart of Texas Council of Governments. “If you need a vaccine, we will be in your area waiting for you at these health fairs – there is no cost, come take advantage of this great opportunity”

If you do not have transportation, the Heart of Texas Rural Transit District is providing free rides on its air-conditioned vehicles to and from the event to anyone who wants to attend. Transportation Manager Rep Pledger said “We want everyone to be able to attend these wonderful community events, so we will be providing roundtrip rides to the event and back to their residence at no cost”
