“IT IS INCREDIBLE TO SEE COMMUNITIES come together when there is a threat such as a fire,” said Freestone County land and business owner, Tony Adkins.

At least twelve different fire departments, from multiple counties, responded to a grass fire that encompassed approximately 250 acres.

Among them were Volunteer Fire Departments from Wortham, Streetman, Southern Oaks, Kirvin, Teague, Donie, Fairfield, Tehuacana, and Mexia.

Also responding to the Sunday, July 21st fire was the Texas Forestry Service, bringing several bulldozers and utility vehicles, along with Mexia EMS, Wortham Police Department, and numerous volunteers.

MD Construction brought an 18-wheeler tanker to support the brush trucks, Sam’s Restaurant sent BBQ sandwiches, Brookshire Brothers supplies water, and several individuals brought snacks and water.

Special thanks also to the Freestone County Dispatchers for their support in organizing the efforts to support these firefighters.
