Collin Street Bakery received the Local Employer of Excellence Award at the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) 21st Annual Texas Workforce Conference held Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 in Dallas.
The award honors private sector employers that are actively involved with Texas Workforce Solutions and have made a positive impact on employers, workers and the community.
Since 1896, Collin Street Bakery has been collaborating with local organizations to hire staff and enhance the community. Family owned and operated for four generations, Collin Street Bakery is a model for good corporate citizenship.
Offering workforce training, Collin Street Bakery recently graduated its 10th consecutive class for the company’s in-house Bakery Training School. Collin Street Bakery also collaborated with Navarro Community College to create the college’s first class of baking certificate recipients through its culinary arts school.
In addition, Collin Street Bakery partners with Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas to screen and hire employees, filling more than 423 positions within Collin Street Bakery in 2016.
Collin Street Bakery is a great place for young employees to learn both technical skills and the soft skills that are critical to advancement on the career ladder, and the bakery actively recruits job seekers with disabilities.
“Each year, we recognize exceptional Texas employers whose investments in our state and collaborations with local partners create valuable opportunities for the current and future workforce of Texas,” said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. “This year, I congratulate Collin Street Bakery and Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas for their successful partnership that adds value to the community and contributes to a stronger Texas economy.”
