What’s Happening at Your Fairfield Library
The Fairfield Library Association Board and library staff want to thank members of the 1959 graduating class of Fairfield High School for their donation to the library in memoriam of fellow class mate Don Carroll who recently passed away. Their gift of $190 is greatly appreciated and Jimmy Lee is pictured with library staff.
In September, Mary King began a series of special Story Time Hours with children from the pre-k at Fairfield Elementary. Just as on Wednesday mornings for the regular Story Time, the children come, hear a story and do a craft with Mrs. Mary. This will continue through the first week of November.
We have partnered with the Friends of Fairfield Lake State Park to present a Pumpkin Decorating Contest for ages 18 and under. The NO CARVING project is for group or individual entries. Contestants may bring their pumpkins to the library all day on Tuesday, October 23, to decorate their artwork (9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) in the Community Room. The library will provide paints and other materials, but participants must provide their own pumpkins. Decorated pumpkins will be on display the rest of the week (Oct 23 – 26) at the library, and can be picked up anytime up to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31. Artists MUST pick up their own project and carry it to the Courthouse steps at Boo on the Square at 5:00 for judging which will begin at 6:30. Full contest rules are on display at the Fairfield Library and at the State Park.
Director Gary Wiggins is planning the next Adult Tech Time to be held in November. He will present an Introduction to Excel class, and, depending on the interest level from the community, plan for subsequent Excel classes to increase knowledge in the popular spread sheet software.
November will also see the beginning of Book Bingo in the library. Interested contestants can pick up their bingo card starting on the first Tuesday in November (the 6th, also Election Day nationwide). Contestants will pay $1.00 for a Library Bingo Card and begin reading books that they check out from the Fairfield Library during November in various categories to get five in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Sample categories include “Staff pick,” “Mystery Genre,” “New to You Author,” and many more. The winning reader will receive a prize at the end of the game. We might even take a photo of the winner for publication in the local papers!
New things are always in the works to make the Fairfield Library a “go to” place for you and your family.
