Temperatures may be dropping, but the City of Teague is looking forward to warmer weather as it begins the application process in the hopes of receiving a grant for a splash pad.
Aldermen voted November 21st to authorize City Administrator Judy Keally to apply for a 50/50 match grant through Texas Parks and Wildlife for installation of a splash pad, as well as a 80/20 match grant for a lighted walking trail.
Heartland Parks & Recreation will be contracted to assist the City in obtaining these grants.
Discussion was also held regarding filling in the old swimming pool.
Alderwoman Marie Hertenberger, who was in favor of such action in March, questioned whether the work should be postponed until the City completes the grant application.
However, Ron Rasbeary offered a dissenting opinion, arguing that the pool should be filled in immediately for insurance purposes. He explained that, currently, the City must keep water in the pool to keep it from “floating up”, and that the existing structure would have no bearing on a splash pad.
With a majority vote, Aldermen voted to amend the 2016-2017 budget authorizing B&B Construction to perform the work at a cost of $4,500.
