Fairfield City Council voted to set a tax rate of $0.464825 per $100 of assessed taxable property during a Special Called Meeting on Friday, September 11, 2020.
The measure was unanimously approved.
This tax rate is the same as the previous rate, but with the higher property values, will generate approximately $66,539 more in revenue.
According to City Administrator Nate Smith, the extra revenue has been earmarked for Street projects, a priority identified by Council members during budget workshops.
Council also approved the 2020-2021 proposed Budget by a vote of 3 to 1.
Vote to approve the budget were Council members James Tyus (Place 1), Bobby Nichols (Place 3), and Landis Bayless (Place 4).
Vote against was Council member Randy Johnson (Place 2).
Place 5 is currently vacant.
The City’s fiscal year begins on October 1, 2020.
