Businesses and official offices are reopening all across Freestone County, as part of Texas Governor’s Plan to Reopen Texas.

Governor Abbott explained how getting the state’s economy, while protecting everyone, especially the most vulnerable, is an ongoing process that will be handled in phases.

Freestone County Judge Linda Grant submitted an attestation form to the DSHS to be allowed to reopen the county at a 50% occupancy as opposed to the 25% required in counties with more than five cases.

As of Friday, May 1, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., fifty counties in Texas are allowed to reopen at the 50%, but this restriction can revert to 25% if the count increases to over five active cases.

Another important note is that no business or office is required to open, and may choose to prolong their reopening if they so choose.

Cities

Fairfield reopened on Monday, May 4, 2020.
The Police Station at the fairgrounds, along with the Administration and Utility Billing offices at 425 W. Commerce, will be open, but due to the confined space only one person will be allowed in to conduct business at a time.
There will be separation barriers in the visitor lobby and regular disinfection for people’s safety.
The Municipal Court will reopen Monday to accept payments and handle processing.

The disc golf course and walking trail will remain open.
To avoid potential mass gatherings, the basketball court and playground located at the city park will remain closed.
In addition, the Civic Center (Green Barn) will remain closed until there is further guidance from the state.

Teague reopened Monday, May 4, 2020, but are including an hour from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for disinfecting and employee lunches in most locations.
The Utility Billing Office and Police Department/Court Lobby will be limiting access and the number of individuals allowed in the office at a time. Signs and instructions will be available.
8th Avenue City Park playground equipment will be accessible for use, weather permitting, with staff on hand to disinfect the equipment between families.
The city lake is open 6:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. daily with the exception of the pier remaining closed.
A virtual permit for the collection center can be obtained by contacting City Hall.

Wortham opened on Friday, May 1, 2020 and plan to follow Governor Abbott’s guidelines exactly.

Libraries

Fairfield Library has no set date to reopen at this time.
The Library Board of Directors will meet to decide the safest route going forward, and what safety protocols need to be installed.
Gary Wiggins, the Library Director, explains,” The safety and health of our Patrons and Employees is paramount to the Fairfield Library Association, Inc.”

Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia is open to the public.
They do request that their visitors wear a face mask, and remember to do social distancing.

Teague Public Library reopened on Monday, May 4, 2020.
A Plexiglas shield was installed at the librarian’s station for when you check out.

While the Facebook post did state 25% occupancy, Judge Grant’s announcement allowed that to increase to 50%.

Museums

The B-RI Railroad Museum will be reopening on Saturday and Sundays with an occupancy of 33.

The Freestone County Historical Museum will not be reopening as of yet.
