“We are not in a panic,” stated Freestone County Judge, Linda Grant, as she explained the reasons for declaring a state of disaster.
The County is working to be prepared in case there is a COVID-19 infection. At press time there were NO cases reported in Freestone County as of press time.
The declaration of disaster allows the county, and cities that have declared, to start counting their time towards disaster and to request necessary funds and supplies from the state, as they become necessary.
Also declaring a state of disaster in Freestone County are the cities of:
–Fairfield
–Streetman
–Teague
–Wortham

The courthouse is still currently open as necessary to the public with the exception of the driver’s license office. You can go online to https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/dlfork.aspx?action=renew to renew your license.
Freestone County Clerk’s office is no longer accepting walk-in customers.
–Marriage license appointments may be made over the phone at 903-389-2635 and only the two applying for the license may enter the office.
–Land records are searchable online at www.freestonetx.search.kofile.com.
–To record a document, mail the original document and payment ($26 for the first page, $4 each additional page) to Freestone County Clerk, P.O. Box 1010, Fairfield, Texas, 75840
–Probate, Civil, and Criminal matters need to be addressed by calling the Clerk’s office first at 903-389-2635.
Freestone County Tax Office is also temporarily closed to walk-in services. A drop box is available for registration and tax payments.
