At their Wednesday, August 28, 2024, meeting, Freestone County Commissioners voted to appoint Mandy Chavers as Interim County Treasurer.
Following some confusion on the matter, wherein the County originally appointed Whitney McKinley to the Interim position, but the Republican Party appointed Chavers as their candidate for the November ballot, McKinley chose to step down.
Commissioners request that Chavers start as Interim Treasurer by October 1, 2024.
She stated that she must train someone to take over her administrative duties for her and brother Lucas Chaver’s construction business before she can transition to the Interim Treasurer position full-time but is willing to work with the County to set a schedule, even if part-time in the beginning, until she can step into her new role on a full-time basis.
Commissioner Clyde Ridge made the motion to appoint Chavers as Interim Treasurer, with Commissioner Andy Bonner giving the second.
All others voted for the appointment as well.
