Frankie Terry of Bethel was born on November 9, 1920, meaning she will be turning 100 years old on the ninth.
Mrs. Terry has spent, “All her days,” in Bethel and the surrounding community.
In her younger days she could be found doing field work, such as picking cotton or watermelon.
She had five children with three still surviving, and seventeen grandkids. Along with a host of great grandkids and great-great grandkids!
That makes her family a five generation family right here in Freestone County.
During her life she had two main hobbies, fishing and piecing quilts.
Mrs. Terry’s mother made quilts for sale, and would give her the leftover pieces. She would use paper cut into blocks, and use those to combine all the pieces to make her a quilt.
As for fishing, she would visit streams and tanks to fish for some perch or catfish.
As a child, Mrs. Terry remembered not always liking how things were, but as her and friends grew older they, “Thought about the time we had. It was a good time.”
Now, 100 is a major and impressive milestone for any human to make, and you might expect a big crowd gathering to celebrate.
Mrs. Terry though, “Don’t wanna be in a crowd.”
She said that her children and some grandchildren are coming to visit her for her birthday, but with the virus being dangerous she wants to be safe.
While you cannot go wish Mrs. Frankie Terry a Happy 100th Birthday, you can certainly wish her one in thought.
