Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, commemorates the day, June 19, 1865, when enslave African Americans in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom. This occurred two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War.
Two celebrations are planned for Juneteenth in Freestone County:
Fairfield
There will be a Juneteenth Freedom Day celebration on Thursday, June 19, 2025, beginning at Noon at the Fairfield Junior High practice field.
Enjoy domino and spade tournaments, games, bounce houses, water slides, music, hot dogs & chips, and water, all FREE for the community.
Bring your lawn chairs, tents, and coolers.
NO tobacco or alcohol allowed!
The Jr. High Practice Field is located at 701 Post Oak Road in Fairfield.

Butler
The public is invited to the Butler Community Juneteenth Celebration, Boots on the Ground!
This event will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Butler E. E. Wheat Center.
There will be plenty of festivities for the entire family.
The day will kick off with a parade beginning at 10:00 a.m., traveling on FM 489 from Shiloh Baptist Church and head North to the community center.
Butler Beavers Alumni will be the honorary for the day.
Immediately following the parade, there will be a car show, food trucks, food stands, and plenty of vendors to purchase all kinds of merchandise.
