Julian Jefferson, originally charged in the killing of Fairfield woman Denise Lissette Ramos back in May of 2024, has now been formally indicted by a grand jury on a charge of Capital Murder.
Ramos’s body was found by Fairfield Police in March of last year, and it was discovered that Jefferson, a former Navy sailor, was the likely suspect, and he has been held in federal custody on another matter awaiting extradition for nearly a year.
Luis Ramos, the father of the victim, says that he and his family have been doing their best to keep going since the loss of Lissette.
While they still have a hard, long fight ahead, he is glad things are finally moving forward with the case.
“We plan to be at every court date, no matter how big or small,” he says. “We plan to be there to show our support for our daughter and to be sure that she has a voice.”
Once Jefferson is extradited to Freestone County, he will be assigned a lawyer and enter a plea, and it could be another year before the case heads to trial.
The Texas Attorney General’s office is handling the prosecution on this case.
