Freestone County school districts and Cities will be holding elections on May 7, 2022 and the time to get your name on the ballot begins this week. The filing period for both entities is January 19th through February 18th, 2022.
Candidate Requirements
Those desiring to run for City Council must meet the following requirements:
–U.S. Citizen
–Qualified Voter
–6 months residency
–18 years of age
–no felony conviction
Additional specifications listed for School Board (per Election Code 141.001) include:
–has not been by court to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote
–has resided continuously in the state for 12 months, and in the territory from which for 6 months
–registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected
–satisfies any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office
