Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield is excited to announce a new youth minister has been chosen by the local congregation. David Skinner, a 2005 graduate of Fairfield High School, has already began his duties and is excited to continue the great tradition Calvary has been known for regarding their Christian youth programs.
Coming to Fairfield from La Vernia, Texas, Skinner joined the staff of Grace Bible Church there in 2018 and had been their Discipleship and Small Group Pastoral intern since May of 2019. He was responsible for developing and implementing curriculums for discipleship which aligned with Grace’s mission and vision statements. Most importantly, he did so in accordance with the Bible. His duties at Grace included training and commissioning new small group ministry leaders, and publishing literature and newsletters to keep the 750-plus member congregation engaged.

He became an elder at Grace Bible Church in February 2018 and served in many ministries while on staff. He preached and taught the Bible in various ministry settings, participated in the governing of the business of the church from bylaws to ministry shepherding, and spearheaded the Ministry Care, protection and management programs of the church.

The young pastor has had numerous leadership responsibilities Including adult Bible Study Leadership Committee, Small Group Discipleship Coordinator, organizing, leading and preaching at conferences and camps and elder leading and shepherding.

The new youth minister received Christ at the age of 13 while attending Daniel Springs youth camp in East Texas. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 2005 and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Secondary Education from Sam Houston State University in December 2009. In the winter of 2016, he began to sense that a call to preach had been placed on his life. In September of 2017, he surrender to preach and began pursuing his Masters of Theology in Preaching and Pastoral Ministry through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in January of 2018.

“I am committed to living, teaching and preaching the full counsel of God’s word,” Skinner stated. “I love to preach and teach with a heart for discipleship training and leadership, working with flourishing Biblical families, and lovingly engaging with the unchurched as well. It is my sincere desire that all people from all places come to know Jesus Christ and truly become His disciples that will then make disciples of all the nations. In Today’s culture it is imperative that God’s word is clearly, boldly and faithfully taught. However, the Christian message must also be delivered with a sincerely grace and truth-balanced approach. In so doing the church will be able to be a fertile ground for the flourishing of biblical families in a growing, militant culture, cultivating a discipleship minded church firmly rooted in God’s truths, and exemplify the true message of the Gospel of Jesus.

David and his wife Kayla have three sons: Tripp, Waylon and Wyatt. For more information about Calvary’s youth ministry programs, please contact Calvary Baptist Church at 903.389.2613.
