If you enjoy singing, and especially Christmas music, you’re invited to sing with a local church as they begin practice for their annual Christmas Cantata.
Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield will begin practicing Sunday at 4:45 pm for this year’s performance and would love to fill the choir loft with not only their congregation choir members, but those from the area as well.
Music minister Shelby Race has selected a Christmas musical titled ‘Peace Has Come’, created by Dennis and Nan Allen of Lifeway Worship. The musical will include solo, duet and assemble performances as well.
Participants in the musical will be given a CD with all the parts sung with music, and a second disk with either soprano, alto, tenor or bass voices only. This makes perfecting your specific part in the cantata much easier and one can listen to each while traveling or relaxing at home.
Songs included in this year’s musical are ‘All Is Well’, ‘Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song)’, ‘Christmas Candlelight Medley’, ‘Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus’, ‘I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day’, ‘It Came Upon the Midnight Clear’, ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’, ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’ and ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’.
Other selections which will be sang include ‘Peace Has Come’, ‘Silent Night, Holy Night’, ‘The First Noel’, ‘Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne’, ‘What A Beautiful Name’, and ‘While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks’.
“Our church looks forward to this presentation each year as we celebrate in song and music the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” music minister Shelby Race stated. “We would love to see every choir loft seat filled with voices as we bring this beautiful Christmas music to the community. The fellowship we experience together as a choir is a blessing in itself.”
Anyone from high school age and older is invited to participate in this year’s performance. Practice will begin this coming Sunday, August 26th at 4:45 pm and end at 5:25 pm and will continue each Sunday until the performance date.
