Experience a season of fun for Texans big and small
Texans of all ages can enjoy a season of exploration and discovery with the Bullock Museum. With a full slate of activities suitable for all ages, as well as the dynamic exhibitions on view, the Bullock Museum is a great place to escape the heat and celebrate Texas history and culture.
The Bullock Museum has free exhibit admission the first Sunday of each month during H-E-B Free First Sunday, which also features family crafts and activities. The Bullock Museum will also have free exhibit admission and family-friendly programming on July 9 during the Bob Bullock Birthday Bash, when it celebrates the birth of the Museum’s namesake, Lt. Governor Bob Bullock.
The public can experience the Bullock Museum after-hours at Third Thursdays, when the Museum stays open late on the third Thursday of each month. During the summer, Third Thursdays will feature a special series of musical performances by local Black artists, including the Peterson Brothers, Zach Person, and Mélat.
Other events and activities will be offered throughout the summer, including children’s art classes, summer storytimes, film screenings, and talks related to Texas history and current special exhibitions.
“We’ve got fun planned all summer long at the Bullock!” said Jessica Moriates, Public Programs Manager at the Bullock Museum. “Be sure to check our calendar and stop by to learn something new, have a unique experience and meet some of the incredible partners from the community that we’re collaborating with.”
Visitors can explore the Texas History Galleries and see unique artifacts like Bobbie Nelson’s grand piano, an AT-6 “Texan” airplane, a Nudie suit worn by Hank Thompson, and an Apollo era NASA Mission Control console. Visitors can also discover the more than 300-year-old French shipwreck, La Belle, through augmented reality. Also on view is the special exhibit The Harmon and Harriet Collection of African American Art: Works on Paper, which highlights the rich history of Black art in America through watercolors, etchings, screen prints and more from the 20th century to the present.
