The Wortham Bulldogs had an offensive explosion in a span of the first half, but the Bremond Tigers were too much in a 64-30 win at Bulldog Stadium on Wednesday night.
Bulldog sophomore running back Tanner Bean finished the night with 272 rushing yards and three touchdowns and added another one receiving and the Wortham offense managed to move the ball the entire game, however they could not contain the Bremond Tiger offense.
Wortham took the ball and scored on the second play of the game. Bean took the ball and made two cuts and raced up the sideline for the first score of the game. The try for two was no good and Bulldogs led 6-0 less than a minute into the contest.
Bremond promptly tied the game on a quick four play drive. Seth Kasowski broke away on a 14-yard run and then was stopped on the conversion and the game was tied 6-6 with 9:36 remaining in the first quarter.
The Tiger defense intercepted a pass on the next possession and put together a long drive. They took eight plays and converted a fourth down on an offsides penalty and Kasowski scored on a 3-yard run. He then passed to Hunter Wilganowski for the conversion and the 14-6 Bremond lead.
The Bulldogs used two plays to get the score back. Bean took the handoff and weaved his way through the Bremond defense for the 52-yard touchdown run with still five minutes remaining in the first quarter. The conversion pass was no and that left the Bulldogs trailing 14-12.
Kasowski added a 33-yard run for the touchdown to give the Tigers the double-digit lead. The conversion run came from Jaray Bledsoe, a big running back that was difficult to get on the ground and the lead swelled to 22-12.
Bremond added another score finishing an eight-play drive that covered 60 yards. Bledsoe did most of the damage, breaking several tackles on the drive. Kasowski passed to Logan Burnett for the 17-yard touchdown and stretched the lead to 30-12. A short punt set up a short field for the Tigers and they needed one pass play from Kasowski to Burnett for a nine-yard touchdown.
Wortham would answer and stay as close as possible near the end of the first half. Sophomore quarterback Ryken Lewis dumped a pass to Bean, and he did the rest with a 21-yard touchdown play to cut the Tiger lead to 36-18.
Bremond would not be outdone, and they added a late touchdown. Kasowski threw his third touchdown of the half to T.J. Grimes, covering 16 yards to extend the lead to 44-18 at the half.
Bremond scored the first touchdown of the second half with a Bledsoe eight-yard touchdown run and later Hunter Wilganowski had an interception return for 20 yards and the lead swelled to 57-18.
Tanner Bean broke through the Bremond defense and raced untouched for a 70-yard touchdown for to slice the lead to 57-24. Freshman Cash Perez would add a five-yard run for the final points with a fourth quarter running clock.
Wortham has no time to rest with a game with three-time defending champion Mart on Monday night and they will travel to Chilton for the important regular season finale and could affect playoff seeding.
