The Wortham Bulldogs trailed 22-6 at the half and the Timpson Bears closed out their district opener Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bears got on the board early when their 82-yard drive had nothing but first down plays. A couple of passes for 18 and 12 yard each, and a 15-yard run set up a 22-yard touchdown run by Jon Grogan. The two-point conversion was good and the Bears led 8-0.
Timpson forced a Wortham punt and Grogan connected with Kaeson Gentry for a 43-yard pass play inside the Wortham ten-yard line. Jordan Osby scored on a nine-yard run for an early 14-0 first quarter lead for Timpson.
The Bulldogs put points on the board to cut in the Timpson lead. Quarterback Kemontrell Jackson hit Braxton Whaley for a 32-yard pass down to the Timpson 27-yard line. Stephon Ester had a 12-yard run inside the five and he would finish with a one-yard walk into the end zone. The try for two was no good and the Timpson lead held at 14-6.
The Bears would add one more score before the half. Osby scored on a seven-yard jaunt that ended nine play drive that started at the Bear 31-yard line. The two-point conversion was good and the halftime score was 22-6.
Timpson scored quickly in the first minute of the second half. On second down at their 42, Grogan passed to Osby on a short pass and he took it the rest of the way, completing a 58-yard touchdown and a 30-6 lead.
The final score of the night came before the midway point of the third quarter. After a short Wortham punt, Grogan took off on a quarterback keeper and raced 39 yards for the score. The conversion failed and the score was 36-6.
The teams were held out of scoring position for the remainder of the game and the final score was 36-6.
Wortham was held to 207 yards of total offense and Ester was chasing a 1000 season. He is up to 996 on the season. Braxton Whaley was a bright spot with 13 tackles and two sacks.
The Wortham Bulldogs are 0-1 in the district standings and have lost their last two games. The will take to the road and visit the top ranked team in the state. The Bulldogs will travel to Tenaha to take on the Tigers next Friday night.
