Bringing Hollywood to the area, one of Fairfield High School’s illustrious alumni has added one more title to his resume: movie producer.
Although Robert Johnson (Class of ’83) is quick to say the title is in name only, he was, in fact, the driving force in bringing the filming of Warning Shot to the streets of Corsicana, Texas.
“This is the one that got it all kicked off,” says Johnson, who currently serves as the City’s Chief of Police. Since then, Corsicana has seen over a dozen movies and television shows filmed in their area.
This week, the film that started it all is being shown at Schulman’s Movie Bowl Grille in Corsicana, Texas.
Attending the premiere in Corsicana on Friday, September 14, 2018 were Executive Producer Aimee Nig of Seafoam Pictures and Producer Spero Stamboulis of SDS Pictures.
“We are glad for the opportunity to work with Robert, and the opportunity to work with such an accommodating and giving area.” says Stamboulis. “There’s no egos here. It takes a small army, or a small town, to make a movie.”
Warning Shot is a tense drama meant for mature audiences. The story pits a single mother against two enforcers sent to secure the family’s water rights, by whatever means necessary.
Those who have visited downtown Corsicana will recognize the brick streets in the film.
If you are quick, you may even catch a glimpse of the City’s Police Chief Johnson, who portrays a trucker. (I have to confess, I missed the scene the first time.)
Johnson says he is looking to bring a film to his hometown of Fairfield, Texas soon. “Producers look at the friendliness of the city and if the city wants them here,” he says.
Producer Stamboulis agrees. “If it wasn’t for the community, we would have not been able to make the movie.”
The first dramatic role for actor David Spade, Warning Shot also features the assistance of acting icons James Earl Jones and Bruce Dern.
The standouts in this independent film are the terrifying interactions between Tammy Blanchard, who portrays the single mother, and Guillermo Diaz, one of the armed enforcers, along with his partner, convincingly played by Dwight Henry.
The choices made by the characters, and the degrees to which they are willing to go, make for a well-constructed psychological thriller.
First-time Director, Dustin Fairbanks, does an excellent job bringing this story, written by Breanne Mattson, to the screen.
Warning Shot is showing in twenty-one theaters across the country this week, including Schulman’s in Corsicana and Palestine, Texas. It will eventually be release to video-on-demand.
Make plans to see the movie, and spread the word. “The better it does theatrically, the better it will do in video,” says produce Stamboulis.
