Brian Stafford, age 60, passed away at his home Tuesday, August 11, 2020 surrounded by his family. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 A.M., Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Cowboy Church of Leon County in Centerville, Texas. Pastor of the church, Tuffy Loftin, will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Leona Cemetery. The Stafford family will receive friends Wednesday, August 12th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
Born September 9, 1959 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Victor “Brian” Stafford, was the only son of four children born to Herman & Frances (Sheppard) Stafford. At the age of four Brian and his family moved to Leon County where he remained a resident his whole life. He received his Associates Degree from Navarro Jr. College in Corsicana. Brian retired from T.D.C.J. following his service from September 1989 to September 2009. He received his Peace Officer’s license in 1997 and worked at Freestone County from 1997 to 2000. From 2000 to 2007, Brian worked for the Fairfield Police Department. In 2007 he began work for Leon County Sheriff’s Department and retired in 2018. During that time, Brian received his Master Peace Officer’s License in 2015 and his Jailer’s license in 2017. He was a member of the Cowboy Church of Leon County.
Brian was preceded in death by both of his parents; son, Trevor Kyle Stafford and sisters, Cynthia Lynn and Karen Denise Stafford.
Surviving family members include son and daughter-in-law, Vic & Jessica Stafford of Grapeland; sister, Karen (Ralph) Savage of Leona; grandsons, Ryder and Roan Stafford; niece and nephews, Matt (Vanessa) Johnson, Mistin (Blake) Meyer, Tyler (Emily) Parks and Tanner Parks and great niece and nephew, Archer & Alethia. Brian is also survived by special friend and caregiver, Eugena Rebey, as well as numerous aunts and cousins.
Pallbearers were Mark Boyd, Larry Dorman, Bart Dorman, Tim Franklin, John Adams, and Trampas Rodell.
