Visiting with Texas author Michael Corcoran during a book signing held in Teague on Saturday, January 28, 2017 is Irene Slaughter (left). “Washington Phillips and His Manzarene Dreams” focuses on a Depression-era musician from the Simsboro community of Freestone County. Known as Mr. Wash, this Gospel Blues artists has fans all over the world. Around 50 people attended the event, including residents, family members and fellow musicians. The author shared his experiences in researching Phillips, played some of his music, and then videotaped members of the audience as they shared stories of the preacher/musician, including Loisey Mims (below). Corcoran’s new book is published by Dust-to-Digital of Atlanta, Georgia and includes a 16-track CD.
Following the event, author Michael Corcoran had this to say: “It was a big success, perhaps too much so for several folks who came to buy books, but were unable because I sold every one even before the talk.”
