Bobby Ray Bonner, 86, of Fairfield, died Friday, August 5, 2016 at his residence.
Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Bonner Cemetery with Pastor Mack Roller officiating. 
Mr. Bonner was born May 31, 1930 in Streetman, Texas to parents John Lee and Eleanor Belle Bass Bonner.
He graduated from Fairfield High School where he was the first male student to be a cheerleader for the Eagles.
Mr. Bonner served for almost four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He had the distinction of being the first single male to adopt a child in the State of California.
Mr. Bonner and his wife, Mary Sue, married in 1964; and he returned to Fairfield and Freestone County in 1995 from Waco where he had lived since 1964.  
“Pops” Bonner was a colorful man who had a love for life that never quit.
Mr. Bonner never met a stranger he did not like; and he was beloved by so many.
He was renowned for his extraordinary generosity and hospitality.
“Pops” had a keen understanding of people and, in essence, was a lover of all souls.
In addition, “Pops” was highly involved in mission work at home and internationally.
He was a dear fellow who marched to the beat of his own drum.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Sue Bonner; three sons, Keith Bonner and wife Melody of San Antonio, David Cathey of Fairfield, Nicho Gomez, Sr. and wife Sandra of Fairfield; five grandchildren, Tara Bonner, Rebecca Crocker, John L. Bonner, II, Sheldon Fuller, Nicho Gomez, Jr.; and one brother, Harry Glenn Bonner of Sun City, AZ.
