The Mexia Blackcats jumped out to a 21-10 first period lead and never looked back in the district win for the Blackcats over the Fairfield Eagles Friday night at the Johnson Activity Center.
Kelan Collins exploded for 36 points and led all scorers and three other Blackcats landed in double figures in the dominating win.
Jakendric Turner scored early along with Kohl Collins and Madden McElroy to hold the game close in the early moments. Collins hit a pair of threes and scored eight in the period and Billy Hicks led the fast break with a pair of scores for a portion of his 13 points on the night.
Fairfield trailed 21-10 at the end of the period.
Brown hit a three pointer and scored 11 on the night. Joshua George grabbed a couple of offensive rebounds and turned them into scores. Collins added 13 more in the frame and the Blackcats extended the lead to 45-21 at the break.
Kyran Bedford and Altrie Farris took over the offense in the second half with scores and Turner added two three pointers for the Eagles and Kohl Collins worked in a crowded paint to score four more in the third.
The fourth quarter turned into showtime for the Blackcats, and they added two points to the final score. The high-flying Blackcats offense had a couple of dunks and some long-distance shots to take the District 20-3A win 93-61.
Mexia leads the district standings with Fairfield in the mix for a playoff spot as district play continues next week.
