For those who love the hunt for and finding of great bargains on unique items, and for those who are simply looking for a specific item for a particular place in your home, Southern Oaks presents its annual “Big Sale & BBQ” event.
The big day is Saturday, September 22, and the sale is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It’s held at the Southern Oaks Clubhouse in the Southern Oaks subdivision, located just north of the Shell Station on FM 416.
“We’re a community of lake-lovers and fun-seekers,” said event coordinator Mary Schutz, who also serves on the Southern Oaks Property Owners Association board of directors. “This fundraiser helps our property owners association with financial support for our various community-wide events– including our “Coffee & Conversation” series, the “Lunch, Learn & Play” summer reading program for area kids, our nostalgic dances (with live music) and our monthly jam sessions for all levels of players.”
Part rummage sale, part garage sale and part flea market, the Big Sale will include a variety of items–furniture (including several upcycled pieces), shop tools, patio items, kitchen stuff, home décor, linens, kids’ stuff, artwork, holiday items and much more. It’s all donated by area residents who are cleaning out storage rooms from a long term storage facility or redecorating their homes. Most items will be displayed inside the Clubhouse, with outdoor items displayed in front of the building. There will be a few booth spaces hosted by private sellers as well. Sale times are 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Any items that remain at 1 pm will go to half-price.
Barbecue brisket sandwiches with chips and a drink will be available for $6 per meal, and will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Donation Day for the event is Friday, September 21, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., for those who wish to donate some gently used, desirable items. No actual sales will be permitted on Friday, only delivery of donated items. Questions about donations can be directed to Mary at 903-389-7586.
