Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 will depart on the “Heartland of America Tour” on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and travel across nine additional states: Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. The eight-week tour concludes in late October.
The train will make many scheduled stops along the tour route, giving train enthusiasts the opportunity to see the train in person.
The nearest viewing to the Freestone County Area will be in Mexia on Thursday, September 19th at the East Commerce Street Crossing.
Big Boy is due to arrive at 12:45 p.m. and depart at 1:15 p.m., giving viewers a 30-minute window to see the train and take photos.
