Scammers are now calling people claiming to be a close family member / friend in order to get their hands on your money.
A Freestone County resident received a call saying her Grandson was in jail, and needed $4,000 cash sent, hidden in a magazine or paper, to a private residence via FedEx so they could have bail money.
The phone call came from 716-280-7570.
The individual requested monies be sent to Michael Bery, even including a case number.
The scammer knew her grandson’s name and pertinent information.
She took the extra step to verify that her Grandson was, in fact, in jail, and learned that he was not.
So, if you receive a call asking for cash money for a family member, verify your facts.
