On Friday, after we had locked the doors and closed down our office, a reader contacted the Freestone County Times about a fake page on Facebook containing spam links.
The page was named “Freestone County News” and it posted a link to what looked like a breaking news story about four children killed in our county.
Those who clicked onto the link were immediately bombarded with spam advertising and possible computer viruses.
This page does NOT belong to an official news publication, and the headline is NOT true.
Our news publication has two Facebook pages:
–Freestone Co. Times
–Freestone County Times
The “Times” also has two website addresses:
www.freestonecountytimes.com and
freestonecountytimesonline.com
Currently, we have two icons used online, both with “FCT” written in white lettering. One is blue, the other a brick red.
So, be aware and check the source, when venturing online.
