August 2021 was near normal on rainfall with 2.16 inches. Normal rainfall for August is 2.37 inches. We had only four days with measureable rainfall with a greatest one-day total of 1.68 inches on August 17. Our total rainfall for the year stands at 35.37 inches. Normal through August is 29.72 inches.

Our record wettest August was 9.25 inches in 2008. Our record driest August was no rain at all in 2011 and 2019.

August high temperature tied the July high of 97 degrees on August 25 and 31. August did, however, win over July as the hottest month of the year with an average daily high of 93 degrees as compared to July at 90 degrees. July is normally our hottest month. On the low side, August came in warmer at 71 degrees versus 64 degrees for July.

Looking ahead to September:

September is one of our drier months with a normal of 2.89 inches of rain. Our record wettest September was 7.89 inches in 1998. Our record driest September was 0.17 inch in 2019.

Our three hottest months of the year are behind us with number four September coming up. September ushers in autumn with cooler temperatures normally with highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. We have, however, had our hottest temperature of the year twice in September in the past.
