Filing has opened for the upcoming 2026 Republican and Democratic Primary Elections this coming Spring.

Filing ends on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with Early Voting running Tuesday, February 17 through Friday, February 27, 2026.

So far, only two races have developed for local county offices, that of County Judge and Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 for the Republican Party. For County Judge, Interim Judge Lloyd Lane has filed, with James Tyus filing as challenger. JP 4 incumbent Lisa Hendrix has filed for re-election, and Adam Minze, current Interim Mayor of Streetman, has filed to run against her.

Also, up for election in 2026 includes District Clerk; County Clerk; Treasurer; Commissioners Pct. 2 & 4; and Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 & 3. All these positions are unopposed as of November 14, 2025, with only the incumbents filing their candidacy.

Freestone County Judge, Commissioner Pct. 3, and JP Pct. 1 all currently have Interim persons filling the positions recently vacated by their original elected officials. These terms are coming to an end, and the Interim officials are filing to fill the positions as an elected official.

State offices that will appear on the ballot in Texas include U.S. Senator (Cornyn), all 38 U.S. Representatives, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller of Public Accounts, Commissioner of General Land Office, Commissioner of Agriculture, Railroad Commissioner, Four Members of the Supreme Court, Three Members of the Court of Criminal Appeals, Three Members of the 15th Court of Appeals, Eight Members of the State Board of Education, 16 State Senators, all 150 State Representatives, and Seven Chief Justice of Courts of Appeals.

*Important to note for U.S. Representative, currently Freestone County is divided into two Districts, 17 with Pete Sessions, and 6 with Jake Ellzey. Following the redistricting, beginning January 1, 2026, all of Freestone County will be District 17. Voters currently in District 6 should receive information in the mail for updating their voter registration cards. Keep an eye out for it sometime in December.*
