The suspect in the alleged Gibbs Memorial Library arson was arrested and indicted as per the press release from the Mexia City Manager, Eric Garretty.


Martin Anthony Ogeda, 26, was taken into custody at the Mexia State Supported Living Center on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019.


The Limestone County Grand Jury indicted him with a single count of arson of a place of assembly and a single count of criminal mischief greater than $300,000 in connection with the fire.


He was taken into custody Wednesday, October 23rd 2019 by Mexia Police Department and Mexia Fire Marshall’s Office and was transported to Limestone County jail for booking.


Ogeda is a resident of the Mexia State Supported Living Center.


The Mexia State Supported Living Center’s state website page explains the campus is for “people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems.”
The Gibbs Memorial Library fire on Saturday,

September 28, 2019 devastated the eastern half of the building, and caused smoke and residual soot damage to the western half.
