The area was filled with students on the track vying for a berth in the regional track meet coming soon. Fairfield, Teague and Wortham will all send athletes to the Region III meets in their respective classifications.
The Fairfield Eagles and Lady Eagles only had to walk out of their locker room to begin their day on the track since Fairfield High School was the host of the area meet for Districts 17 and 18 in Class 4A.
AJ Polk advanced to the regional track meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. In the fast-final Cameron Linville captured first in the 200 and won the 100-meter dash.
Sergio Izquerdo joined the Eagle teammates with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. He did not advance in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Bi-Stone area was huge in the shot-put ring. Fairfield’s Hayley Phillips had a qualifying toss of 39’9” and she finished ahead of Ladycat Tashurdra Reeves, who got Mexia second place points.
Fairfield had two ladies qualify in the pole vault. Jaylin Hughes qualified with a nine-foot jump and was second to Jordan Morse of Gatesville. Abby Coleman took the last qualifying spot with a fourth-place finish.
The Lady Eagle mile relay will advance to the regional meet. They took fourth behind Conally, LaVega and Robinson.
Mexia will have Ty Gamble advancing to the region meet with a win in the triple jump. Gary McWhirter won second place in the high jump and Gamble finished fourth.
Macie Martinez will head to the regional meet when she won the 3200-meter run going away over a pair from Lorena. She also qualified for the regional meet with a third-place finish in the 1600 meter.
The Teague Lions travelled to Keene High School for their area meet.
Senior Marcus Williams won the shot put by more than a foot over Jeremy Heisler of Grandview. He also finished fourth in the discus, which Heisler from Grandview won.
Bryan Vasquez took third in the 1600-meter run. The Teague 4×200 relay team of Tayvis Coleman, Nemier Herod, Azaya Patrick and Andrew Satterwhite edged out a team from Palestine Westwood to qualify for the area meet. Coleman also finished fourth in the triple jump.
The Lady Lions got on the winner’s stand early with a win in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Michelle Moreno ran past the field and won the event to advance to the regional track meet. She also finished third in the 400-meter dash.
Lizzette Aguilera edged Hailey Myers from Malakoff and advanced to the regional meet. She ran a 2:31.17 and she will be joined by teammate Abril Arrezola with a third-place finish. Both Aguilera and Arrezola completed their night with a first and second place finish in the 1600-meter run. Both ladies ran sub six-minute miles and advance to the regional meet. Aguilera had previously won the 3200-meter run.
In the field events, Teague had a couple of qualifiers in the Triple Jump. Macy Guerrero won the event by a slim margin 1.25 inches and Destanee Roblow finished third.
For the Wortham Bulldogs, Zaria Oates will participate in the Regional meet in Palestine with wins in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
