The 2024 Big T Memorial Cook-Off is set for October 17th, 18th, and 19th. The event will include a “Touch A Truck” event for the kids, Disc Golf Tournament for all ages, as well as a 42 Tournament for domino lovers, Kids Cookoff, Cornhole Tournament, Live Auction, vendors and live music.

The event will be held at the W.L. Moody Reunion Grounds in Fairfield, Texas.

The annual Big T Memorial Cook-Off is a State Championship Lonestar Barbeque Society-sanctioned event which includes a $10,000 payout.

Main categories include Chicken, Pork Spareribs and Brisket. Jackpot categories are Beans, Cook’s Choice, Salsa, and Dessert.

Entry fee for Main Categories is $200 per team. Jackpot Categories are $35 each.

Move-In starts at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 17th. RV hookups available but limited, so register early to reserve your spot.

Cook team move-in is from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18th. Team registration is upon arrival.

Tray pick-up is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Head Cook’s meeting is at 6:00 p.m.

This event is a Great Time for a Great Cause.

Golden Circle Special Needs Association, along with Big T’s Buddies Autism Support Network, donated thousands this past year to area schools and various special needs programs for the past several years. Thanks to the generosity of the cook teams and sponsors, these much-needed funds have been used for life skills classes and for furthering the mission of special needs camps in our local 5-county area.

The Big T Memorial State Championship BBQ Cookoff is brought to you by the City of Fairfield and the Golden Circle Special Needs Association. The 2024 Board Members include President Leldon Childs, Vice President Jeff Kirgan, Secretary/Treasurer Shannon Margraves, School Liaison Darla Matthews, and members Matt Kirgan, Butch Margraves, Michael Crockett, Jake Day, Barry Baird, Cory Ward, and Lance Barker.

Event staff this year includes Kelly Barker, Jennifer Ward, Jenna Haden, Ressie Margraves, Dana Brackens, Whitney McKinley, and Josh Holcomb.

42 Tournament

Teams or Singles are welcome to enter the 42 Tournament on Friday, October 18th at the Green Barn (Civic Center).

Cost is $20 per person, $40 per team. Anyone is welcome.

Registration will be from 5:30 – 6:15 p.m. with Tournament play following a reading of the rules.

Bracket will be determined by the number of teams registered by 6:15 p.m.

Prize for First Place is cash money and a commemorative set of dominoes.

Cornhole Tournament

A cornhole tournament is on the list of events, to begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th. No further details were available on the website as of press time.

Disc Golf Tournament

Disc golfers are invited to join the Big T Memorial Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 19th, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Touch-A-Truck Event

Touch-A-Truck is an event where kids of all ages can see, hear, smell, and touch a variety of cool trucks and other vehicles.

Event will be held at the fairgrounds from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th.

Cost is $5 per person (or $20 max per family) to explore a fire truck, ambulance, police car, bulldozer, track hoe, tractor, dump truck, and much more!

Music will be provided by DJ Ren.

Businesses or individuals can bring their big / cool / strange trucks and let kids get a close-up experience with vehicles that would usually be off-limits.

Kid’s Cook-Off Challenge

Have a kiddo who loves to cook? Sign up for the Kids Cook-Off Challenge held Saturday, October 19th.

Any kid between the ages of 8 and 17 years will be eligible to compete. Junior Division is 8-12 years, Senior Division is 13-17 years.

Cost is $25 per entry.

Registration and set up is from 2:15 – 2:45 p.m. Cooking starts at 3:00 p.m., and food must be turned in by 4:00 p.m.

Barbeque

Jackpot entries will be turned in for judging beginning on Friday, October 18th with Cook’s Choice at 7:30 p.m. and Dessert at 8:30 p.m.

Salsa will be turned in on Saturday, October 19th at 10:00 a.m., and Beans at 11:00 a.m.

Cook-Off main category entries will be turned in for judging on Saturday, October 19th beginning with Chicken at 12:00 p.m., Pork Spare Ribs at 1:30 p.m., and Brisket at 3:00 p.m.

Winners and Awards at 5:00 p.m.

A Live Auction will be held at 6:00 p.m.

Live Music will begin around 7:00 p.m.

Vendors & Lemonade Stands

Vendors are still needed for this event with a variety of products. Food vendors approved on a case-by-case basis, with limited availability.

Booth fee is $35 for the weekend.

Booth fees for all Lemonade Day participants, non-profits and churches will be waived.

All trailers must be self-contained. Limited electricity on the grounds.

Snow Cone and Shaved Ice vendor spots have been filled.

The event will not be able to host any vendors selling alcohol or tobacco, or any type of smoking paraphernalia.
