April rainfall came in below normal at 2.46 inches. We had three days with measurable rainfall with a greatest one-day total of 1.73 inches on April 25. Our normal rainfall for April is 3.72 inches.
Rainfall total for the year stands at 10.61 inches. Our normal rainfall through April is 15.25 inches.
For the record, our wettest April was 11.03 inches of rain in 2019 and our driest April was 0.61 inch in 2001.
Temperature-wise, we had somewhat below normal temperatures with a high of 91 degrees on April 5 with highs remaining mostly in the low to upper 80’s for the remainder of the month. We normally have some highs in the mid-90’s in April. Lows were mostly in the 50’s and 60’s with a low of 48 degrees on April 8 and 14. March-like winds seemed to persist throughout April.
Looking ahead to May: May is normally our wettest month of the year at 5.46 inches of rain. Our record wettest May was 15.38 inches of rain in 2019 which was also the year of our record wettest April with 11.03 inches. Our record driest May was 0.49 inch in 2009.
May temperatures normally range from lows in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s to highs in the 80’s to mid 90’s. We have not had a triple-digit temperature in May over the past 28 years.
Normal rainfall data used was derived from average rainfall over the 20-period from 2001 through 2020.
