April followed suit with January, February and March with above normal rainfall for each of the first four months of the year. There were ten days with measureable rainfall for a total of 6.06 inches with a greatest one-day total of 1.99 inches on April 12.
Normal rainfall for April is 3.05 inches. Our record wettest April over the past 26 years was 11.03 inches of rain in 2019. The driest April was 0.61 inch in 2001.
Rainfall total for the year now stands at 25.13 inches. Our normal rainfall through April is 13.44 inches.
Temperature-wise, April temperatures were almost a repeat of March temperatures. High temperature for April was 87 degrees on April 8, only two degrees higher than the March high of 85 degrees. On the low temperature side, April had a low of 44 degrees on April 15, one degree lower than the March low of 45 degrees.
Several days of cloud cover throughout the month was probably a factor in cooler than normal temperatures for April
Looking ahead to May: May and October have shared the wettest month honors over the past several years with October currently holding the title. Normal rainfall for May is 4.67 inches. Our wettest May over the past 26 years was 15.38 inches in 2019. Our driest May was 0.49 inch in 2009.
On the temperature side, we will likely be seeing some highs in the mid to upper 90’s in May.
