Freestone County residents showed up to cast their vote last week for the 2020 Primary Run-off Elections.

In Freestone County, 16.91% of registered voters cast a ballot: 1,695 in the Republican Primary, 345 in the Democratic Primary. This is an increase over the turnout for the March 3, 2020 election of: 1303 Republican Primary, and 203 in the Democratic Primary.

Freestone County, Precinct 3

Precinct 3 had two run-off elections, County Commissioner and Constable.

Lloyd Lane won the County Commissioner Pct. 3 with 69.28% of the votes against candidate Ronnie French.

Richard McGowan won Pct. 3 Constable with 61.56% of the vote against incumbent Pamela Brackens.

At this time, neither candidate will face opposition in November, as no candidate filed in the Democratic Party.

These numbers are considered to be unofficial at this time as Republican and Democratic Chairmen must canvas the votes. This should take place within the next month.

Worth noting, there is one more opportunity to enter the race, as write-in candidates were allowed to file for a spot on the ballot for the General Election starting Friday, July 17, 2020, which will be held November 3, 2020.

US Representative, District 17

A Run-Off was held between Republican candidates for the position of US Representative, District 17.

Pete Sessions won against Renee Swann with 58% of the vote in Freestone County, and a total of 54% of the vote overall.

Combined vote results show Sessions in the lead with a total of 18,458 votes and Swann a close second with 15,694 votes.

The Democratic candidates also held a run-off election for the position of US Representative, District 17.

Rick Kennedy won Freestone County with 60.56% of the vote and defeated David Jaramillo in the Democratic primary runoff.

Sessions and Kennedy will face off in the November General Election.

United States Senator

In the Democratic run-off election, Royce West won 63.39% of the vote in Freestone County against Mary “MJ” Hegar.

However, Hegar ultimately won the position with 52.1% of the vote overall, and will be facing John Cornyn (R) in the upcoming November election.

Railroad Commissioner

Texas will be electing for one of three seats on the railroad commission on November 3, 2020.

In the Democratic Party, there was a run off for the position between Chrysta Castaneda and Roberto R. “Beto” Alonzo.

Castaneda won Freestone County with 52.47% of the vote, and took 62.1% overall.
She will be facing James Wright (R) in November.
