Ann L McFarlan was born and raised in Fairfield, Texas. She was born February 16, 1929 to parents, Hugh B. and Lucille R. Steward. She married Earl D. Waddell and they had three sons; David, Hugh and John. When the family moved to Houston, Ann was active in First Presbyterian Church. Ann joined and was committed to the Houston Junior Forum, serving in many capacities including as President. When the boys were grown, she worked in the travel industry until Earl retired and they moved to Fairfield. There Ann was active in Fairfield Harmony Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder.
Following Earl’s death after 24 years together, Ann moved back to Houston and became active with the local chapter of The Republican Women. Later, she married Edward McFarlan and they had five wonderful years together before his death in 2000.
Ann was a gracious person, committed to family, caring for others and interested in the matters of her community and country. She loved to travel and had visited many different parts of this world. Ann was equally comfortable being very elegant or with the unmade-up life of camping or scuba diving. People enjoyed being with her.
Ann died peacefully September 21, 2020, in Fairfield, Texas. She was predeceased by her eldest son David. Survivors include her two sons, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her brother H. Leighton Steward and his family.
