The men and women of the Teague Police Department were honored Monday, May 15, 2017 at the regular meeting of the City Council where Aldermen signed a proclamation declaring May 14 – 20, 2017 National Police Week.
Aldermen expressed their sincere appreciation for the Department and their dedication to the safety and support of the community.
Following an early executive session, the Council approved the hiring of three new City employees.
Joining the Public Works Department are Robert Garcia, and Albert Jones, Assistant Public Works Director. Sara Timberlake-Trevino was hired as the City’s new bookkeeper.
Aldermen canvassed returns from the May 6th general election, ratifying the appointment of Ron Rasbeary, Chris Nickleberry, and Marilyn Michaud.
City Administrator/Secretary Theresa Prasil administered the council members’ oath of office.
Lengthy discussion was held regarding appointing a mayor pro tem. After reconsideration of an original motion, Aldermen voted to table the item until the next meeting, when they will reevaluate organization of the Council, as well as a term limit for the mayor pro tem.
The Teague Public Library will receive a face life with the appropriation of $13,500 from the City’s fund reserve account.
Long overdue repairs will be made to the library’s windows, entry way floor, front door, and outside wall, undoing years of water damage to the building.
In other business, Aldermen approved the contracting of Bureau Veritas North America, Inc. to perform building inspections for the City.
Aldermen also voted to approve the City’s updated fee schedule.
Following a second round of executive session, the Council made the decision to board up the windows of the Old City Hall Building, located at 521 Main Street, which has been placed up for sale.
