Last week in these pages a Letter to the Editor made several specious political observations about the coming presidential candidates. He prudently cautioned that while he “might be totally wrong, he would listen to reason.” Good but unlikely. I write this to illuminate his unfortunate grasp of our dangerous political situation, both at home and internationally.
His points for consideration:
- Biden’s “criminal complicity” — While no formal charges have been made of Biden senior, his admitted participation in son Hunter Biden’s demonstrated influence for sale smells like a week-old fish. The president was “the big guy” in Hunter’s pay for play dealings.
- President’s age – Anyone in his 80’s (I am) will confirm that both physical AND mental reflexes are not the equal of what they were at 70 or even 65. The president has been publicly embarrassed at confusing names, events, recent meetings with others deceased. Millions of American have seen Mr. Biden on TV addresses, confused, lost, etc. Last week after a televised address, he mistakenly went the wrong way from the podium and was assisted by his wife back to his seat. I saw this as did millions of other Americans. Most democrats and most republicans too don’t want him (or Trump either) for president.
- International weakness — Biden’s refusal to forcefully commit to the defense or Taiwan (America’s friend) from Communist China (our avowed enemy), the shameful abandonment of Afghanistan and our friends there like a thief in the middle of the night, his timid approach to arming Ukraine sufficiently to win the war against Russia, instead, dribbling out weapons/armaments, and his encouragement of Israel (our only true friend in the Middle East) to cave in with a cease-fire, giving terrorist Hamas time to regroup, rearm, and return to murdering attacks.
- Complete dereliction of sworn duty to protect the country’s borders. The southern border, contrary to Harris’s statement, is wide open. Border Patrol and military personnel there now merely process migrants, not as the law specifies, repel them. This is Biden’s choice. Last month, according to federal reports, over 300,000 illegal migrants were stopped and then allowed to enter.
- America’s “slide into European socialism” — just look around us: decriminalization of actual crimes, failed Obama-care, wide open borders, homelessness a national scandal, especially in democrat-controlled cities, obscenely restrictive legislation that elevates the cost of ordinary living (see California, New York, Mass.), higher taxes that penalize productivity and reward stunted growth, “buying” the votes of youth with the illegal, smoke & mirrors student loan forgiveness program. The loans were real; the debt would have been merely transferred to the national debt. The list seems endless . . .
- Fact: Biden himself stated before selecting Kamala Harris for V-P that he would choose “a woman of color” for his running mate, never mentioning any real qualifications for that office which most importantly is assuming the presidency itself if needed. Kamala Harris as President, Commander-in-Chief? Insanity.
Several years ago while traveling, I heard a grown man in a nice restaurant loudly boasting that he paid $1000/month for car insurance after driving 90 mph through a school zone and being caught. I told him that if I were stupid enough to do such a thing, I surely wouldn’t be dumb enough to tell it publicly. Good advice for people who seriously would support Biden/Harris for the White House. I fear what Might Happen with Trump as president, but I honestly believe that a man who seriously endorses these two demonstrated political hacks for highest office must be certifiably imbecilic.
