It is with a sad heart that I say farewell to the outstanding citizens of our Freestone County audience. I was saddened to hear of the finalization of an era in news and sports coverage that has kept readers involved for several years.

I have been writing weekly during the football and basketball seasons covering the tremendous students of our area. They have taken me to the highest mountains of coverage such as AT&T Stadium with the Fairfield Eagles football team to the Alamodome with the Fairfield Lady Eagles many times. It has truly been an honor to cover these students as they played at the highest competitive level. It was quite a journey, one or several that I will never forget.

For now, I will have some time on my hands over many weekends in the near future. I will continue to work for KNES Texas 99 for weekly football telecasts, and I will be the lead broadcaster for the YouTube channel on Navarro sports for Navarro College Bulldog football and basketball home games.

I am thankful to Mr. Marsters and Karen Leidy for giving me the reins of the sports department and allowing me to improve my writing skills within the pages of the Freestone County Times.

I will miss the staff and ownership at the FCT. I hope that they have a bright future ahead of them. The lights will dim on this time, but they will light a path down the line. I will not forget those times.

Farewell friends and loyal leaders and I hope you continue to enjoy “Snapshots” on Texas 99. I will continue to research and write them.

Take care and it is not goodbye, but see ya later.
