The Freestone County Elections Department invites those wanting to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) to visit their office at 444 Main Street in Fairfield, Texas to take the VDR test.
According to the VoteTexas.gov website, Volunteer Deputy Registrars are entrusted with the responsibility of officially registering voters in the State of Texas. They are appointed by county voter registrars and charged with helping increase voter registration in the state.
To be appointed, a person must:
–be at least 18 years of age,
–be a United States citizen,
–not have been determined by a final judgement of a court exercising probate jurisdictions to be totally mentally incapacitated, or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote,
–never have been convicted of a felony, or if convicted, must have fully discharged the sentence, or been pardoned, or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote,
–not have been finally convicted of identity theft under Section 32.51 of the Penal Code, and
–be a resident of the State of Texas.
Once having passed the test, and appointed as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar, such individuals will be issued a certificate of appointment and given a receipt book or voter registration applications with a tear off receipt.
Terms expire on December 31st of an even-numbered year.

Last day to register to vote in the November 3, 2026, mid-term Elections is Monday, October 5, 2026.
Early Voting will be held from October 19 thru October 30, 2026.
