First Responders & Community Show Support

K9 Farock of the Fairfield Police Department was honored during a memorial service on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Farock was a 2-year-old German Shepard, specifically trained for Fairfield PD who had served the department for approximately 1 year at his untimely death on June 12, 2026, when he was reportedly left in a police cruiser and succumbed to heat-related complications.

Following an autopsy, Farock’s body was cremated and his remains were brought back to Fairfield in a solemn procession from the College Station area.

Law Enforcement agencies worked together to provide escort for the procession through each county until reaching Fairfield.

Agencies providing escort through their respective areas included Grimes County Sheriff’s Department, Grimes County Constable, Grimes County DPS, Madisonville PD, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Leon County Sheriff’s Department, Freestone County Constables, and Freestone County Sheriff’s Department.

Once the entourage arrived at City Hall, Chief of Police Albert Gallegos, Jr., carried the remains of Farock in a wooden box, leading the procession into the building for a lovely service, where he spoke to the crowd.

During the service, a flag was presented to City Secretary, Misty Richardson, for being instrumental in getting the K9 program started at Fairfield PD.

Sergeant Jeff Courts with the Vidor Police Department provided beautiful bagpipe music during the arrival and at the end of service.

City of Fairfield officials and employees, a handful of citizens, and approximately 40 first responders attended the service to pay their respects to Farock.

Law Enforcement Officers in attendance included Fairfield PD, Wortham PD, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, Freestone County Constables, Freestone County Commissioners, DPS officers from Freestone, Limestone, and Navarro Counties, Navarro County Sheriff’s Office, Ennis PD, Wills Point PD, Navarro County Constables, Waco PD, and Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office.

First Responders included Fairfield EMS and Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department who flew a flag over Highway 84 on the courthouse square as the procession came through town.

K9 teams in attendance included K9 Solo with DPS Trooper Matthew Ochoa (who recently graduated and will be covering Freestone County) and K9 Nora with Detective Jacob Palos of Corsicana PD.
