South Freestone Water Supply Corporation (the WSC) will soon be implementing line upgrades to its distribution system and constructing a new well thanks to funds recently awarded by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).

The WSC applied to TWDB’s highly competitive Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for planning, design, and construction of water lines, a new well, and upgrades to the pump station and pressure tank in the amount of $6,953,454.00, of which $4,923,454.00 is principal forgiveness, or grant and $2,030,000.00 in 0% loan.

The WSC will save about $2.4M over the life of the TWDB loan, compared to other lenders.

“We are excited to make these improvements to our utility,” says Christal Smith, General Manager, “We want to do everything we can to see that our customers have reliable, affordable water for years to come. This type of funding is difficult for WSC’s to obtain. The Board of Directors and Management have been working diligently for the last several years to structure the corporation so that it could become eligible for grant funding programs. We are all excited to see it come to fruition.”
