The Fairfield Lady Eagles wrapped up another district title with a pair of wins and will finish up the regular season on Tuesday against the Westwood Lady Panthers at the Johnson Activity Center.

Fairfield hosted the Mexia Ladycats at the JAC on Tuesday and cruised to a lopsided victory over the winless Lady cats. The Lady Eagle defensive pressure led to easy baskets by Fairfield and the Ladycats committed several turnovers.  Jacelynn Schmidt and Keke Alexander combined for ten points by forcing backcourt turnovers that turned into instant offense. Fairfield shut out Mexia in the first period and led 18-0 after one period.

The Ladycats had a three pointer from Iyana Busby to put them on the board and that was all they would get for the remainder of the half. Schmidt scored eight in the period and Brackens added four more. Kaylee Williams hit a three-pointer, and the Lady Eagles had a commanding 39-3 at the half.

Schmidt and Williams combined for 20 points in the second half and the game finished with all players seeing time on the floor. Simone Garrett had a running three-pointer to end the game and the Lady Eagles finished off a 78-7 win.

Schmidt finished with 22 points and Williams had 16. Kiki Forge tallied double figures on the night with ten points and Rhett Ralston added two. Delaney McGowan scored two and Samayah Willey added a score in the game for the Lady Eagles.

Fairfield played their final road district game of the season on Friday in Elkhart. The Lady Elks still had playoff hopes and will need a win over Teague in the season finale, but they could not handle the pressure of the Lady Eagle defense.

The Fairfield pressure came in waves, and many points went on the board in the first half. Williams scored 11 in the first half, all in the second period and Brackens scored nine in the first half, all in the first period. McGowan added ten points in the first half and the Lady Eagles had already broken the game open with a 39-8 lead.

Schmidt scored 14 of her game high 18 in the second half and the Lady Eagles continued to get minutes for all roster players during the remainder of the game and left Elkhart with an 80-27 win.

Fairfield has clinched the District 20-3A championship and will enter the playoffs as the Division I team. Westwood has clinched third and is the other Division I playoff qualifier and they will play each other to finish out the regular season. Buffalo is the runner up in the district with both losses coming at the hands of the Fairfield Lady Eagles and will be the top seed in the Division II playoffs. If Teague can beat Elkhart on Tuesday, they will enter as the fourth playoff team and the second in the Division II playoffs. A Teague loss on Tuesday could force a tie and likely play in contest so keep up to date here at the “Freestone County Times.”
