As most of us can already attest, political campaign season is in full swing. Our mailboxes are full each day with flyers and postcards from one candidate or another. But do you know what your LOCAL candidates stand for? Have you heard their viewpoints on issues that are important to us here in Freestone County?
For the first time in a long time, Freestone County voters will have several candidates to choose from for many of our local races including:
County Judge, County Commissioners for Precinct 2 and Precinct 3, Justice of the Peace – Precinct 4 and County Constable – Precinct 3. And for most of these contests, the office holder will be decided in the Republican primary election, just a few weeks away.
On Monday, February 16, 2026, the Freestone County Republican Party will be hosting a Candidate’s Forum at the Fairfield Civic Center beginning at 6:30 pm. Buzz Russell of KNES 99.1 Radio will open the Forum with a head-to-head question and answer period for each local contested race. Candidates will be questioned on their views for various topics that are important to Freestone County voters.
Following the Q&A session, every Republican candidate will be given a 3-to-5-minute window to speak. Candidates for many of our state-wide and regional races have also committed to coming and this will be an ideal opportunity for Freestone County priorities to be heard!
Please make plans, this President’s Day, to come to the Freestone County Fairgrounds and hear from our Republican candidates. What a great way to celebrate President’s Day by participating in the freedom of expression and in the electoral process.
