Officer on administrative leave as Texas Rangers investigate

 

In the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, Fairfield Police were out on patrol. While out on patrol, they responded to an incident that resulted in an officer involved shooting.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., Fairfield Police conducted a welfare check on a female that was walking in the middle of the roadway in the 200 block of County Road 606. While Fairfield Police were speaking with the female, a pickup truck came out of an oil field location and struck the officer’s patrol unit head on. A male subject exited the vehicle and encountered our officer. During the encounter, an officer discharged their firearm.

The male was transported to Freestone Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. No Fairfield Police Officers were injured during the incident.

In accordance with department policy, The Texas Rangers have been requested to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Fairfield Police Department is fully cooperating with the Texas Rangers. Additional details will be released as they become available.
