Freestone County Judge Lloyd Lane, at the October 6th special-called meeting of Commissioners Court, advised that he previously sent a letter to the Historical Commissioner to inquire about adding an additional $4-mil for courthouse repairs because bids came in so much higher than the original grant amount awarded.
The response he received explained that an official request for additional funding must be submitted by December 1, 2025. The committee will meet again on January 31, 2026, where the issue will be discussed.
According to Judge Lane, by that time, the bids that have been received will be expired, and the County will be required to put out another publication and go out for bids again, which will most likely cause a delay to mid-April before work can begin.
Also approved at the meeting were:
–Payroll
–Acceptance of report from County Extension Agent
–Sending of a request for bid to a company to perform asbestos and lead study of the courthouse
–Reappointment of the members as Agricultural Interests Representative and Industrial Interests Representative for Mid-East Texas Groundwater Conservation District
–Selection of IDI Data to perform background checks for election workers and county employees
