The Wortham Bulldogs were shut out for the third consecutive week and the second time in district play. The Bremond Tigers built a 54-0 halftime lead and never looked back in the 61-0 win behind the historic walls of Bulldog Stadium.

Wortham has faced injuries and attrition throughout the first five weeks and have only scored six points on the season. They play in perhaps the toughest 2A district in Texas and inexperience has shown over the season.

The Bulldogs took the first possession and were immediately faced with a third and long situation. Sophomore quarterback Kross Montgomery hit Tyler Langley with a crossing route, and he raced upfield to midfield but was separated from the ball and Z. B. Nobles recovered. The Tigers needed only one snap for the games’ first score. Tank Scott took the handoff and cruised to a 53-yard touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.

Wortham punted in the next possession and Bremond scored on a pass that was called back on a holding penalty. Tyriq Scott scored on a five-yard run three plays later, increasing the lead to 14-0.

A short punt set the Tigers at the Wortham 44-yard line and Tiger quarterback Sam Kasowski hit Braylon Estrada up the seam for the touchdown. Xavier Clark added the fourth touchdown of the quarter on a 25-yard run and the Tigers led 27-0.

Bremond opened the second quarter with a seven-play drive that covered 76 yards, and Scott added his second touchdown of the night and the score swelled to 34-0.

Nobles caught a 30-yard touchdown and Jaden Scott scored on a 5-yard touchdown run to build a 47-0 lead.

On the next possession, Montgomery was trying to fight upfield and he attempted a pass that went straight up, and Estrada picked it off and returned it 26 yards for the touchdown and a 54-0 halftime lead.

The second half featured a running clock, but Jeremiah Clark returned the second half kickoff for a touchdown that covered 67 yards, and the extra point put the score at 61-0.

Langley caught a long pass for the only Bulldog offensive threat, but they turned the ball over on downs.

Wortham drops to 0-5 on the season and are winless at 0-2 in district play. They will take to the road on Friday night when they travel to Mart to take on the Panthers, a surprising 1-4 on the season and are also winless (0-2) in district play.
