Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Judge Theresa Farris, has announced her retirement as of October 15, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in a letter to Judge Grant and Commissioners dated September 9, 2025.

The letter reads:

Judge Grant and Commissioners:

It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation from my position as Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 with Freestone County, effective October 15, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed working for Freestone County and serving its citizens, my husband’s declining health has become my main concern. After much consideration, I have decided to step away from my duties in order to devote my time to caring for him.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I have been given during my time here and for the support and kindness of my colleagues. It has been a privilege to contribute to the County, and I will carry with me many great memories of both work and the people.

I will do everything I can to ensure a smooth transition and to assist in wrapping up my responsibilities before my departure.

Thank you once again for the tr4ust, support, and encouragement I have received throughout my thirty years of service.

Respectfully,
Theresa Farris
