Westwood High School Athletic Director, Coach Richard Bishop, was the topic of an agenda item at a UIL State Executive Committee evidentiary hearing held Monday, August 18, 2025, as The ‘Times’ was headed to press. According to the agenda, the committee would be discussing a personnel violation in connection with Bishop.
In October of 2024, the committee suspended Bishop but did not require the team to forfeit its district games following a conflict about portions of the game between Fairfield and Teague High Schools being recorded.
The SEC also issued a public reprimand and put Bishop on probation for the 2025-2026 school year.
The agenda item mentions Section 51(b)(1) of the UIL constitution, which is related to failure to comply with the athletic or academic codes.
The meeting was livestreamed on the UIL website.
As for this football season, according to the school’s website, Bishop remains Athletic Director and Glen Tunstall will serve as football coach.
No one was available to give confirmation as of press time.
The ‘Times’ will provide an update in next week’s edition.
