Not a lot of changes to our phone policy, but a couple of things that did:
Phones will not be allowed at lunch now, by law, and a parent or guardian will always have to pick them up if they get confiscated.
Everything else is pretty much the same as always. They will be turned into the teacher at the beginning of class and returned after class.
No air pods or headphones will be allowed.
We truly appreciate all the parental support we have received for the past two years!! This really does help the educational environment!
Texas House Bill 1481 mandates that Texas public school districts prohibit the use of personal communication devices by students during instructional time and on school property.
This includes devices like cell phones, smartwatches, and other devices capable of transmitting or receiving data, with exceptions for documented disability accommodations, medical directives, and legal safety requirements.
The bill aims to reduce distractions, improve focus, and enhance the learning environment.
What does that mean?
Students are required to have their devices powered off and stored away in a backpack.
NOT ACCESSED AT ANY TIME, which now includes lunch, between classes, bathrooms, and locker rooms during the school day.
Cell phones and other electronic devices include: Cell phones, Smart watches, Earbuds / headphones, iPads / Tablets, or any personal device that has communication capabilities.
IN POSSESSION includes:
Holding the device, carrying it in a pocket or on their person or checking the device while stored in a backpack at any time during the school day.
Confiscated phones will be held in the office until a parent can come and pick it up. There will be no fees, but there will be disciplinary consequences.
